PBDW was hired to alter two run-down commercial spaces on a declining commercial street in the Greenwich Village Historic District. Our challenge was to create lively storefronts that would help revitalize the street while remaining compatible with the district.
To establish a stable and historically correct background the sagging brownstone structure was structurally reinforced and facades were re-faced. Show windows were brought forward. The overall design was made to visually connect the upper two stores to each other and to what had been two dingy and dark basement spaces below. The resulting independent but related storefront designs established a highly successful and aesthetically different commercial spirit for this important and historic street.
