These new Colonial Revival houses interpret the spirit of summer on Long Island. Organized behind a long south-facing porch, which addresses fine old trees and tended lawns designed by landscape designer Deborah Nevins, the main house accommodates large-scale entertaining as well as private family life. A welcoming stair connects living rooms to family bedrooms and a guest suite.
When asked to design a guest house on the lot next door, we took the opportunity to provide a theater-style media room for year-round entertainment. The new structure is sited close to the road, maximizing the size and privacy of the expanded rear yard. The smaller building resembles a converted stable or garage, a congenial image that is consistent with the area’s agricultural heritage.
