HOTEL BEACON

New York, NY | ? SF | Anticipated 2026

  • Built in 1928 and designed by Walter W. Ahlschlager, the Hotel Beacon was the epitome of residential hotel architecture. Rooms were available to be leased unfurnished with maid service or furnished with full hotel service. Each studio, one-, and two-bedroom unit had its own kitchenette.

That tradition of gracious accommodation still exists at the Beacon, and PBDW has worked with its owners over the past two decades to upgrade and modernize the building. We installed new windows throughout the building, designed for energy efficiency and to keep the noise of the city at bay while providing full views in four directions. Elevator upgrades included newly designed cabs. The 17th floor roof terrace was renovated with new finishes and lighting. A new lobby bar was created to serve guests and theater goers, with a large multi-purpose room below.

Currently in the design phase is the full renovation of its 307 guest rooms, distributed over 23 floors. An entire model floor is currently completing construction and will set the standard for the rest of the building. A major feature of the project is the enlargement of bathrooms to modern standards. Public spaces on the first floor and cellar will also be renovated as part of the overall project to reimagine the hotel for the 21st century.
